Appreciation of Exterior Lighting Design for the Singapore Elementum Project

Elementum is located within the One-North technology hub in Singapore's Buona Vista community, the heart of the country's thriving biomedical industry.

This 12-story building follows the irregular shape of its site, curving in a U-shape along the perimeter, creating a distinctive presence and visual landmark for the Elementum campus.

The building's ground floor features a large atrium seamlessly integrated with the surrounding park, while a 900-square-meter green roof serves as a public activity space. The primary laboratory floors are enclosed in energy-efficient glass, designed to accommodate a variety of tenants with flexible spaces ranging from 73 to 2,000 square meters.

Facing Singapore's new Rail Corridor, Elementum seamlessly connects to this greenway through its porous ground level and stepped gardens. The building's enhanced public spaces, including an amphitheater, playground, and lawns, will enrich the Buona Vista district and create a vibrant community hub.

The lighting design concept aims to create the illusion of a floating structure through upward illumination of the podium. The detailed design of the stepped sky terraces also introduces upward-directed lighting.

To address the client's concerns about maintenance for fixtures installed on the high ceilings of the podium, we lowered the lighting fixtures and integrated spotlights with elliptical beams to illuminate the open areas of the podium. Additional spotlights installed along the skylight edges are accessible for maintenance via a rear service passage.

Facing a greenway repurposed from a former railway—the Rail Corridor—the streetlights softly illuminate the cycling and pedestrian paths, seamlessly blending with the corridor's landscape.
