"Visual Health and Comfort Testing for LED Lighting Products" Officially Implemented
On March 1, 2025, the recommended national standard GB/T 44441-2024 "Visual Health and Comfort Testing for LED Lighting Products" was officially implemented. This standard was jointly developed by the China National Institute of Standardization, the National Key Laboratory of Joint Innovation for Semiconductor Lighting, and other institutions. It is based on the T/CSA 035 series standard, which was released by the Zhongguancun Semiconductor Lighting Engineering R&D and Industry Alliance (CSA) between 2016 and 2017.

Technical Overview of GB/T 44441—2024
This document specifies the evaluation requirements and testing methods for the visual health and comfort of LED lighting products. It is applicable to assessing the impact of indoor LED lighting systems on human eye health and comfort.
LED visual health and comfort assessment is based on the photobiological response characteristics of light on the human body. It employs cellular and molecular testing, objective physiological indicators, and biochemical analysis of neurotransmitters. The evaluation considers three dimensions.Impact on Retinal Cells: Assessing how LED lighting affects retinal cells in the human eye.Effect on Visual Function (VICO): Evaluating the influence of lighting on overall visual performance.Influence on Neurotransmitter Secretion: Examining how lighting affects the secretion of key brain neurotransmitters.
The development and application of this document will support domestic enterprises in creating independently innovative healthy lighting products. It plays a crucial role in positioning China as a leader in international markets, particularly in the "human-centric" lighting field. By promoting this standard, the aim is to enhance indoor lighting quality, reduce the adverse effects of poor lighting on vision, lower myopia rates, improve sleep quality, and alleviate visual fatigue—ultimately contributing to the overall health and well-being of the population.
